My Dog is Nuts
Posted in: General by Steve on May 23, 2007
So I went to let the dogs out tonight and Buddy, my 8 month old Golden Retriever, was laying on his back, snoring and sleeping. I snuck up on him and got this picture.

Internet Dependent
Posted in: General by Steve on
Last night, I came to the startling conclusion that I can’t live without the Internet.
My home Internet and digital cable went out last night at about 6PM, which was fine for the early evening since I had to fix a computer and Debbie had to go to class. After class, we met at home to then go out and pick up a new grill. She noticed that the TV
was all staticky. I didn’t think anything of it since the last few times it’s been out, it’s come back on after a couple hours.
After picking up our grill, we headed back home and had to unload this sucker. It weighs about 300 pounds and Debbie and I couldn’t lift it ourselves. We had to get our neighbor to come help us. We got it in the garage and went into the house to let the dogs out. Debbie found that the cable was still out.
So I called Comcast and their tech support didn’t pick up for 20 minutes. I was waiting for a person to pick up that long. It was ridiculous. So I hung up and tried to go through the Internet side to see what was going on. I get through right away and talk to one of their support people. She tells me that there is not any maintenance or outages in my area and so the earliest they can have someone come out is Wednesday (this was on Monday night mind you). So I have no choice but to suck it up and say okay.
I let Debbie know and she is appalled. Why would it take that long to get a technician out to us when ALL of our services are out?
I call them back and wait for the regular cable side. I’m waiting for 30 minutes before I get through to Frank. He tells me that there is a problem and that he doesn’t know how long it will be out. At least I get an answer this time as to why.
On top of no TV, it was about Elevety Billion degrees upstairs. We need to get some more fans or windows or something since it’s starting to get warmer.
Point being, every night, my wife and I have a routine of watching TV, checking our email, looking up junk on the internet, then going to bed. It’s sad that the whole night was ruined because we couldn’t do any of those things. We were at a loss for words because we wanted to relax. I started reading Code Complete and Debbie was reading one of her books.
Have we all become so dependent on technology that we can’t function and communicate with each other by talking to each other? Has instant messaging and texting taken over?
